... Yeah, there's not much else to do since the alternative is pretty bad, I think. Otherwise, if you get some bad news, what keeps you from just giving up, right?

[Covers Sam’s hand with his own, humming in agreement]

I think…everyone is hoping for hard answers. Our situation isn’t that black and white though. I think we each decide what the truth is for ourselves.

I guess hard answers are just easiest when it's stuff out of your control, especially, like terminal illnesses or something.

[ he sighs. ] Then again, it's not worth worrying about either when we're stuck in this place where people are doing whatever the hell they want with themselves and not in good ways.

[ he stretches, his tails flicking like they can push away the sentiments and he goes to hug onto Jewel more protectively. ]

...Just keep doing your best not to hurt yourself and I'll consider it overall a win, okay?

That's not entirely possible, but I'm glad to hear it.

[ Sam is tied of working about other people who don't worry about themselves, but he's stuck worrying about some of them whether he wants to or not. So he's glad he can at least trust Jewel to look out for himself where he can't trust... anyone else to do the same, really, except Duran. ]

Thank you... for also caring. [ Sam goes to crawl under the covers now, poking his head out and his tails grasping at the blankets to tug them up around him more like trying to help him feel more protected his ears flatten as he tries to stifle a yawn. ]

They don't go away until I sleep, I guess because I don't have the energy discipline to retract them while sleepy.

[ he'll go to cuddle up near Jewel again, though. ]

I won't take long, but feel free to do whatever you like. [ closes his eyes now. ]

... Kinda heavy talk for second. I used to tell myself that there's someone out there for me, but if I'm honest I've given up on that in the past few days. I realized though... it's okay. The only thing I really want is to not be alone when my time comes. And, because of you, I think I never have to worry about that now. So, thank you so much.

[ Sam nuzzles Jewel's cheek again, his ears twitching, before he goes to curl a little more into the blankets. ]

[Wraps an arm around Sam tightly]

You’re still young. Of course I’ll make sure you’re not alone, but isn’t it too soon to say you’ll never find anyone? You’re still so young.

[ Sam chuckles good naturedly at that, seeming truly delighted to hear it. ] Ahaha, then please stay here with me if you like it!

[ He hums. ]

I don't want to be so fully pessimistic as to say I'll never find someone, I just have realized that it's entirely possible that person may not be available whether because they're with someone else or have passed on early or all those sorts of possibilities we can't account for where things just never line up correctly. I don't mean it negatively, though. Or at least, I don't want to mean it negatively. I'm just making peace with my own wild ideas.

There's nothing on this boat worth taking home except you, though. What would I get on shore that would be a convincing good souvenir?

Maybe if they're a big fan of yours I can get them something autographed, though... ?

[ Sam hums thoughtfully, but nothing further comes out of his mouth, ultimately going quiet. ]
