[ laughs a little, looking at the ugly birthday cake fondly.

All right, time to try this cake.

Gotta make a wish first. Also, aren’t I supposed to sing?

Hm?! You're gonna sing for me? Can't wait!

Mhmm, so use the time to come up with a good wish.

[Clears his throat jokingly before starting to sing, soft and slow. There’s no music or dancing or hamming it up. Just scoots his chair closer to Sam’s and rests his head against his shoulder while he sings which eventually tapers off into soft humming]

[ wow this is so endearing. Sam feels like this has to be a dream. It's just too content and simple and uncomplicated and nice to be real, right?

tilts his head to gently rest against Jewel's own against his shoulder.

well, for now, a dream or not, he should indulge and enjoy it first, be embarrassed his brain is this pathetic and embarrassing later on if ends up true it's all a dream. ]

All right, I got my wish.

Better blow the candles out while it's still fresh in your mind then.

[ lifts his head so he can lean in a bit and blow out the candles. ]

Gonna tell me what you wish for?

[Gets up so he can cut the cake.....and attempt to plate it to look a little more appealing]

[ hums before chuckling. ]

I wished that one day you and I could feel the same way about each other.

You do know tradition says it doesn't come true if you say it outloud, right? You were supposed to be like 'teehee you know I can't say, Jewel'.

Yeah! But it's not gonna come true, regardless; and I felt like it was safe because you can't even somehow in a weird way suddenly feel obligated and guilty to make it happen since you don't actually know what the feelings are. Soooo it just seemed more fun to tell you, anyway!

[CUTS HIM A BIGGER SLICE OF CAKE]

[It's definitely dry. And a little burnt. And the measurements aren't quite right, but it is at least edible. He did in fact try to make it good.]

[ Well, definitely not the worst thing he's ever tasted, and Sam's still so happy someone he had only know since arriving on the boat thought of him on his birthday that definitely cancels out most of the issues enough that he just keeps eating it. In between bites, softly and sincerely: ]

Maybe I'll level up by next year.

I have other things planned for tonight unless you're tired.

I'm not tired. I was planning to stay up all night for something way less important than spending time with you, anyway, so I prepared accordingly beforehand.
