[ Well, definitely not the worst thing he's ever tasted, and Sam's still so happy someone he had only know since arriving on the boat thought of him on his birthday that definitely cancels out most of the issues enough that he just keeps eating it. In between bites, softly and sincerely: ]

[Pokes at his own slice of cake]

I have other things planned for tonight unless you're tired.

I'm not tired. I was planning to stay up all night for something way less important than spending time with you, anyway, so I prepared accordingly beforehand.

Is what you’re wearing comfortable or do you want to change?

It's comfortable, no worries.

Okay, I'll just grab my coat and shoes then. Do you want to wait here or come with me?

[Reaches back to take his hand]

[ accepts, holding Jewel's hand as he gets up to go with him. ]

[Swings their hands, pulling Sam along with him]

I just have to stop by my room and then we can go. We'll come back to open your gift at the end, okay?

Okay, sounds good.

[Into Jewel's room they go which....he's got his whole collection of 'treasures' displayed on his desk (aka little gifts and trinkets he's received from various people on the boat, including Sam). Finally lets go of Sam's hand to go look through his closer]

[ Sam will look at the treasures collection display with interest, admiring them. He's also glad he was right in thinking that Jewel was getting these from people well enough. ]

[Returns in short enough time, giving Sam a hug from behind, peering around him at his treasures]

Gifts from friends. It cheers me up to see them each morning.

[ brings a hand to gently place over one of Jewel's in front of him with the hug. ]

Glad to hear it, they're all very nice and go well together here, too.

[Gives his hand a squeeze]

It's probably not very aesthetic, but it makes me happy.

That's what matters the most. I mean, aesthetics are meant to look nice to invoke certain feelings, anyway, and happiness is one of them.

[Wraps up in his robe, humming in agreement]

True. Does your room bring you happiness?

Hmm... I don't have much in there, but the fish help me relax. And you and my furbabies like the fish, so yeah, that part makes me happy.

Well, hopefully the gift I have for you will add to your collection then.

[ Sam shifts now so that he can turn enough to embrace Jewel and hold him. ]

It will. I do have a spot for things, like the cologne you gave me.

[ he wears it, too, of course, but the bottle is important reminder it was a gift so it's still put somewhere special. ]

[Hugs back tightly, turning his head to kiss Sam’s cheek before resting his chin on Sam’s shoulder]

I’m glad you like it.

[ runs a hand through Jewel's hair affectionately. He may have lots of wishes for their relationship he feels like he can never obtain, but without a doubt for him he is always happy for such simple affectionate moments. It almost makes anything else to do with them pointless to pine for when he has this opportunity. ]

Very much. I wear it a little less now that I get to see you more, but it's still objectively really nice and even moreso because I got it from you.
