There is no way to give a sincere, heartfelt answer to that while sober. The embarrassment would murder me on the spot.

then he remembers how one of Sam's biggest frustrations early on was how they couldn't progress and act with each other the way they could act with other people they liked. this is probably more silliness on their part. ]

...I'm not going to act like I think you may actually have something that's going to change my mind since you two are really very funny about how you interact versus how you do with others you're friends with, but I can very easily understand that. And I'm not actually trying to humiliate you by asking, I'm just trying to show you that you're probably just feeling even more clingy because two others important to you have also been messed with in some way. I'm not even saying you care about those two more than Sam, just it's amplifying an especially unpleasant experience multiple times for you.

[ Childe taps his hands on the table thoughtfully a moment, seeming to actually be making an effort to discuss than to be mean. ]

...Afterall, I can't deny that since I came first, Sam is a part of me. It's not insulting to me you want to keep him around.

Are you worth dying for?

Besides that…I’d much rather someone live for me. Dying is easy.

My life span has been cut into from corruption of the Abyss, but I don't plan on dying until I'm good and ready. And finding something worth dying for doesn't have to mean you want to go and die for it. Do you understand?

[Leans forward, setting the drink on the low table between them and scooting closer, sitting on the edge of his seat and glancing up at the other]

Can’t you just find something you can both agree on? So neither of you has to disappear?

[ shrugs a little. ]

I play a mean game because you don't care how much I bully you so I have to bully Sam. In truth, we agree on a lot, it's just mostly you. Sam and I were on the same page, things just started getting extra getting complicated in regards to you.

Sam thinks you're worth trying to navigate things as they are in Port Manteau when the entire reason for getting on this cruise was to find something we could pursue passionately or someone we could devote ourselves to completely. I'm not convinced you're enough to risk dying early for due to no real purpose. If you aren't going to feel that same way in return, will you still be enough for Sam to live for? Or will he lose any will to live this life as soon as he feels like you don't need him around anymore?

All right....let's assume for a minute I'm not enough. At least I'm enough for right now, right?

Yeah, but what's going to happen once this journey ends and you have a life to go back to? Think about yourself, too. If you lose Sam because in the end you're not enough, will you be able to accept it or will you blame yourself and get dragged down by it. You aren't willing to take risks for yourself because your afraid of losing. But it's going to hurt a lot more if you are just delaying the inevitable.

Sam's happiness shouldn't have to fall on your shoulders now that you've drawn a line. You have other friends, too. I think he's a little too high maintenance even though you'll never have anything asked of you.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were a little worried about me.

[ leans forward enough now that their noses almost touch, his smile sharp with a hint of teeth as he speaks quietly like it's a secret between them. ]

[Presses their lips together lightly]
